JUAREZ--- Hard to imagine that the man hired to carry out the gruesome attack on teens at a birthday party in Juarez hails from El Paso.
Adrian Ramirez, 30, was the one who organized the attack that killed 18 teens last weekend, said Mexican authorities Tuesday.
Through exclusive sources, NewsChannel 9 has confirmed that Ramirez was born in El Paso.
At one time, he lived in the 3800 block of Hastings in Central El Paso.
As of late, though, he had been living in Juarez.
Tuesday, Mexican soldiers killed him in a shootout.
Through our sources, we've confirmed the 30-year-old man had a long history of criminal charges here in El Paso.
In April 2007, he was charged with family violence and assault.
Four months later, another charge of aggravated assault.
In early 2008 he was charged with robbery, and a month later in February he violated a protective order.
Mexican authorities say Ramirez was a member of the Juarez Cartel's La Linea, and had an EPT tattoo on his chest.
EPT for "El Paso, Texas."
Authorities in El Paso have not confirmed any gang involvement here.
"he is not believed to be a known barrio azteca member in el paso," said FBI spokeswoman Andrea Simmons.
El Paso Police told NewsChannel 9 the same.
Adrian Ramirez was supposed to face those charges in court, but we're told he fled to Mexico and stayed there until his death Tuesday.
