Massachusetts bans sale of plastic water bottles
The new year brings a controversial new law into effect in a Massachusetts town.
The sale of some plastic water bottles is now prohibited in Concord -- making it the first town in the nation to ban them.
Town officials voted to ban sales of 16-ounce plastic bottles back in April to help reduce the number of plastic bottles in landfills.
Long time Concord resident Gabe Jackson is still in disbelieve. "I thought it was a joke a first but then didn't realize it was going to put in effect and then it's so stupid that we can't buy water, it's water, like come on."
The ban only covers bottles that are 16 ounces or smaller.
Some businesses have been against it from the beginning and now are finding ways around the law by selling 20-ounce plastic water bottles.
Anyone who violates the ban will be fined 50 dollars.
