Rodrigo Diaz says moments after he got onto I-10 Wednesday evening, he saw an SUV in the right lane skid on its side, leaving a trail of fire. He says his instincts immediately kicked in and he pulled over and ran over to the burning SUV.
Once there, Karla Cerino was handing over her children over to Diaz, who pulled them out of the car that was quickly being consumed by flames. He said he wanted to go back for Karla, but she was swallowed by the fire.
Although he acknowledges he made a huge difference by saving the two kids, he says he can't help but keep thinking about what he could have done differently to save Karla as well.
Now, Karla's mother wants to meet Rodrigo to thank him personally for saving her grandchildren.
Yes he is my hero, im his wife and iam so proud of him,thanks every body for your suport and your comments.
Thank your for doing what you did to save these children. It could have been my wife and children. It could have been any of our loved ones in need of help. Thank you for taking action in the moment of greatest need.
This act of heroism is going to be in Mr. Diaz's mind for the rest of his life....he did what Karla wanted him to do, save her children. "A Mother's Love". Mr. Diaz, you were the angel by her side. I'm sure she is looking down from heaven and saying "Thank You".
Tell Rodrigo that he is truly a hero. At least the mother of these children died knowing that her children had been saved by a guardian angel.
