Las Cruces police are searching for a man said to have battered his ex-girlfriend and then dragged her by the hair as he drove off in a vehicle Thursday morning.

David “Davey” Jay, 25, was charged with four felonies including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Jay also faces charges of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, battery against a household member and criminal damage to property.

Officers found the victim, a 29-year-old woman with multiple injuries to her head, torso and legs upon responding to the dispute call. She was transported to Memorial Medical Center where she received treatment. Her injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.

Detectives learned that Jay and the woman were arguing outside an apartment on Valle Vista. Jay was sitting in the vehicle with the engine running and when the woman leaned into the vehicle, Jay grabbed her hair and drove off. The woman struggled for a short distance before falling to the ground.

The primer gray Buick Century, the vehicle Jay was believed to be driving on Thursday, was located on the 3300 block of Tigua Drive in Tortugas, just south of Las Cruces, but Jay was not at that location.

David Jay is 5-feet-10-inches tall and weighs approximately 145 pounds. He has brown hair and hazel eyes.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of David Jay is asked to call 911 or Las Cruces Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Tip can be sent via text message to LCTIPS (528477) or by email at lcpdtips@las-cruces.org.
