LAS CRUCES— A man was held against his will in his own apartment after another man whom was visiting at the time beat him.

Las Cruces Police said William Anthony Karels, 24, and his 29-year-old girlfriend, Constance M. Young, visited the 48-year-old victim on Monday at his apartment at 800 E. Foster Rd.

When Karels and Young were asked to leave the two refused, prompting Karels and the victim to get into an argument. Karels punched the victim several times. The 48-year-old had at least seven broken ribs and also received an injury to his ear.

The man was unable to leave his apartment due to his injuries.

A person called police Wednesday to report that they believed the man was being abused and held against his will. LCPD found Karels and Young in a back bedroom of the apartment.

The man was taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Karels was arrested and taken to the Dona Ana County Detention Center with a bond $35,000. Young was also arrested on an outstanding warrant and was being held on a bond of $803.
