A lightning bolt sent a man flying through the air in Central El Paso. It happened around 8 p.m. on the 3500 block of Tyler. The man's girlfriend tells Newschannel 9 she was saying goodbye to her boyfriend next to her car when suddenly a lightning bolt lit up the sky, striking just a couple of feet away.

Mariana Cuevas says she could only watch as her boyfriend flew through the air and into her open car door.

"I just got so scared. I had to call his mom because he was shaking so much and he was having trouble breathing and we just called 911. I got really scared," said Cuevas.

The 23 year-old man was checked out by EMT's at the scene, but declined to be taken to the hospital.

"It hit right here next to us and he just flew into the car and his glasses flew all the way into the other side of the car," said Cuevas.
