Man critically injured in Las Cruces shooting


Las Cruces Police say that the man who was shot near the intersection of El Paseo and Wyatt earlier this afternoon is in stable condition.

The suspect in the case fled the scene in a car and was later involved in a crash as he was attempting to flee. He was taken into custody by LCPD. Roadways are still closed in the area as police investigate.



Las Cruces Police are investigating a shooting that happened around 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of El Paseo and Wyatt.

The call initially came in as a gunshot victim, when emergency personnel arrived, they located a man that had been shot at least once. He was taken to an area hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

One person was taken into custody in the incident.

LCPD Sgt. Roberto Gutierrez says that there are multiple witnesses to the incident that are still being interviewed. Police are expecting to have the intersection closed for the next several hours while they continue to investigate.

North and southbound lanes on El Paseo are closed from Wyatt to Idaho. East and westbound lanes on  Wyatt are closed from El Paseo to Arizona.
