Man Charged Following Assault on Girlfriend
LAS CRUCES, N.M. — A man suspected of assaulting his girlfriend on Monday has been arrested.
Henry Lawrence Marquez, 47, of 2013 S. Triviz Dr., was arrested Monday and is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Just before 11 p.m. on Monday, April 23, Las Cruces Police were dispatched to the Value Place hotel on south Triviz Drive where Marquez and his 41-year-old girlfriend had begun arguing. Detectives learned that the woman was trying to end their relationship which upset Marquez.
The woman told detectives that she drove Marquez to another location so he could pick up his vehicle and that, as she was driving, Marquez pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed the dashboard several times.
The woman dropped off Marquez at his vehicle and returned to the Value Place. Marquez followed and, as the woman got out of her pickup, Marquez threatened her with the knife and forced her into the hotel. After arguing on the third floor of the hotel, Marquez eventually left and drove back to his apartment.
Police were summoned and Marquez was detained for questioning at his apartment. Marquez was subsequently booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center.
