Police charged Rudy Phillip Villanueva, 23, with arson for allegedly setting fire to his own home in Northeast El Paso.

According to the George De La Torre, spokesperson for the El Paso Fire Department, Villanueva used a baseball bat to break several windows of the home located in the 10000 block of Redwood St.

When El Paso Police officers arrived, they noticed that the curtains in a bedroom of the home were on fire.

Neighbors were evacuated from their homes while firefighters controlled the blaze.

De La Torre said Villanueva had cuts on his hands and feet from the broken glass.  He was taken to Beaumont Army Medical Center for treatment.

There were no other injuries.

Villanueva was arrested upon being released from the hospital.
