EPPD: Suspect tried to shoplift purse, hoodie from Dillard's

A man allegedly tries to steal a purse and hoodie from Sunland Park Mall, then rams several vehicles trying to get away.

According to El Paso Police, officers assigned to the Westside Regional Command Center were called to a shoplifting turned robbery call at Sunland Park Mall Thursday afternoon.

Officers allege that 21-year-old Jermill Brewster entered the Dillard's store, took a Michael Kors purse, a Ralph Lauren Hoodie and ran from the store after store employees approached him.

Police say that Brewster then got in a white 1998 Dodge Neon and drove through the parking lot. Brewster then got caught in traffic at the stop light to enter Sunland Park. When employees caught up to Brewster at the light, he allegedly started ramming vehicles trying to escape. Officials say at least two vehicles were damaged as Brewster forced his way on to Sunland Park Drive.

Officers found Brewster at his home along the 8600 block of Lawson as he was removing his license plates from the Neon. Police also found  the purse and the hoodie valued at $426.00.

Brewster was booked into the El Paso County Jail and his bond was set at $75,000.00.
