Man arrested after he demands ride home from Police Sergeant
EAST EL PASO — An off duty El Paso Police Sergeant was at the Circle K Store on 1500 block of George Dieter when he observed a male acting as if he was casing the store.
The sergeant then observed a female customer enter the store at which time the male began watching her and at one time was seen looking into her purse.
The sergeant, who was in uniform, entered the store in an attempt to deter any criminal activity or confrontation.
The male, later identified as 18 year-old Vidal Garcia, appeared intoxicated and began demanding the sergeant provide him a ride home.
The sergeant offered to call for a cab but due to his off duty status had no way of giving Garcia a ride himself.
Garcia became irate and "squared off" as if to fight with the sergeant.
The Sergeant gave several verbal commands to Garcia who continued to threaten the sergeant.
Garcia was subdued by a taser deployment and placed under arrest for Public Intoxication.
Garcia was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on the Public Intoxication charge as well as a warrant for Theft which was already pending from a separate incident.
