Luxury housing comes to the Northeast

A multi-million dollar development project is in the works in Far Northeast El Paso, bringing some high-end housing to the area.

"A lot of people has asked us, 'Why the Northeast?' Well, our attitude quite frankly is why not the Northeast? The Northeast has been wanting upscale development for quite some time," said David Bogas, the Director of Development for EPT Land Communities, the El Paso developer behind the multi-million dollar construction project called "Bella Estancias."

Bogas says it's a 240 unit, California-Mission style resort apartment and townhome community located at 10800 McCombs in Far Northeast El Paso.

The complex will include one and two bedroom courtyard apartment homes, as well as three bedroom townhomes.
"Why would it be bad for the Northeast? Why would it be bad for anybody to build an apartment complex? It's a free market enterprise, isn't it?" said Jerry Greenwood.

"Bella Estancias" community amenities will include a resort style pool and spa, a lounge with a latte bar, and even a yoga studio, among many other perks.

"I don't think they need fancier, I think they just need a decent place to stay. They don't need all that," said Gregory Colvin.

Some locals like Colvin said they're concerned that the new units are too pricey for residents in the Northeast.

"I don't think income has anything to do with what side of El Paso you live on, does it? I mean there's low income housing on the West side of town, just the same as there is on the East side of town. So why would it be any different?" said Greenwood.

"Bella Estancias" developers argue tenants aren't just paying to live in nice units but also the community experience as well.

"The fact that you can get out and walk your community and get to know your neighbor and spend time with your neighbor, getting people outdoors, that's what people can expect here," said Bogas.

One bedroom apartments range from 586 - 757 square feet with rents starting at $703.
One bedroom/study or den units range from 796 - 866 square feet with rents starting at about $900.
Two bedroom apartments range from 1121 - 1209 square feet  with rents starting at about $1200.
Three bedroom, two car garage townhomes are 1450 square feet and rents start at $1400.
