It's considered the biggest night in Hollywood.
Now, one a local filmmaker is hoping to strike Oscar Gold.
The movie, Red Mesa, is a short film that was shot just outside of las cruces.
The film's writer and director, Ilana Lapid and several crew members all grew up in the borderland.
After a major film festival win, the movie has the opportunity to take home an academy award.

Saturday January 9, there is a fundraiser/screening for Red Mesa in Downtown El Paso at 7pm.
It's being held at 209 North Stanton.
That is the abandoned Newberry Department Store.
There is a $10 minimum donation.
