Sheriff's Deputies charged Rosa Lozoya, 58, with cruelty to animals after deputies found a sick, emaciated horse on her property.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, Lozoya was not providing adequate food, water or care for the horse due to financial reasons.

The Sheriff's Office Animal Control Unit reported that the horse's bones were visible through its skin and also said the animal had trouble standing and was dragging its rear leg.

The horse has since been released to the care of other relatives who have been advised to seek medical attention for the animal.
