Lower Valley railroad crossing to close Monday
El Paso, TX (KDBC) — The Union Pacific railroad crossing at Cadwallader Dr. near Alameda and N. Carolina will close starting Monday.
El Paso City Council approved the closure in March to reduce the number of times a train has to use its horn in nearby residential areas.
Although it is set to be a permanent closure, city officials said the crossing will reopen temporarily to accommodate traffic during the demolition and construction of the nearby Carolina Bridge.
The bridge project is expected to begin in late 2015. Once the bridge is complete, the Cadwallader crossing will permanently close.
Union Pacific will also permanently close three other railroad crossings at Estrella, Cebada and Boone Streets. Dates for those closures have not been determined.
Upgrades and improvements are also planned for the railroad crossings at
• San Marcial Street
• Grama Street
• Copia Street
• Chelsea Street
• Glenwood Drive
• Concepcion Street
• Clark Drive
City officials said a separate Quiet Zone project is being developed in the Five Points area in Central El Paso.
