Loved ones of a well-known Las Cruces motorcycle stunt rider gathered outside his place of business Thursday to celebrate the late rider's birthday.

Friends and family of Andrew Jaramillo, gathered at "Drew's Corner" at the intersection of Solano Drive and Kansas Avenue after a memorial ride through town in his honor.

"A whole lot of love came from Drew, so that's what we're showing him," said friend Eddie Ramirez.

Jaramillo died in March after crashing his motorcycle into a friend's truck after police allege he was performing stunts and sped off when an officer saw him.

Police said he ran through a stop sign at the Kansas and Solano intersection and crashed into the truck driven by his friend Corey Gillespie, 25.

According to police, the motorcycle kept going and crashed into a fence a hundred feet away.

"To hear that he had gone down was pretty crazy," said friend Anthony Montenegro.

Loved ones recently set up "Andrews Ministry of Forgiveness" a non-profit organization working to build a motorplex for riders to perform stunts in a safe environment.

Friends said Jaramillo was a big safety advocate and always preached wearing a helmet.

The non-profit organization is working to collect money to purchase 10 acres of land on the outskirts of town to build a drag strip for races, a black top for stunts and a dirt track for dirt bikes.

"It was his dream," Montenegro said.

Further down the road, they plan to build seating for spectators, add lighting and build an area for grilling.

"A lot of us like to do stunts and we don't really have a place to do them, so this would be really beneficial," Ramirez said.
