Loved ones mourn death of Las Cruces motorcyclist killed in crash
LAS CRUCES, N.M. — A motorcycle crash early Thursday claimed the life of a 25-year-old man.
Wayne Andrew "Drew" Jaramillo died after crashing his motorcycle just before 1am at the intersection of Kansas and Solano, according to Las Cruces police.
I'm sorry that it happened, he was my friend," said Collin Miesen
Police said Jaramillo was driving home on his motorcycle performing stunts when investigators think he saw a police officer and sped up.
They said he ran through a stop sign at the Kansas and Solano intersection and crashed into a truck driven by his friend Corey Gillespie, 25.
According to police, the motorcycle kept going and crashed into a fence a hundred feet away.
Jaramillo is said to have died at the hospital.
"He was just that guy that when he came around everything felt right," Miesen said.
Thursday afternoon loved ones gathered outside Jaramillo's carpet cleaning business to pay tribute to their friend.
Miesen said Jarmillo was a passionate young man and was a great stunt rider and will be greatly missed.
Police continue their investigation and believe alcohol and speed to be factors in the crash.
Las Cruces police arrested Gillespie for driving with a suspended or revoked license.
