El Paso, TX (KTSM) — Loved ones of Jesse Valdez, the motorcyclist killed in an accident, gathered in East El Paso on Sunday evening for a fundraiser.
The grills were fired up and the music played as friends and family members pulled their resources together to raise funds for Valdez's funeral costs and his family. Valdez leaves behind an 8-month-old son.
As we've reported, Valdez was killed when authorities say he lost control of his motorcycle off I-10 and Sunland Park on September 5. Friends say the fundraiser is important because Valdez did a lot for his community.
"Jesse did a lot for our city in El Paso. He was actually a 12-year veteran at United Blood Services. And as we heard he was champion, he always drew the most blood for El Paso for every event he had to go to for Montwood High School and the colleges as well," Veronica Gonzalez, Valdez's friend told us.
The benefit is taking place at 6 Strings off Airway Boulevard in East El Paso and will last until 2 am.
UBS also started an account at GECU to help Jesse's family with funeral expenses. The account number is: 327571.
