Long-time El Paso judge laid to rest Thursday
EL PASO — Hundreds of people attended funeral services for long-time El Paso judge, Sam Paxson. Services were held Thursday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Central El Paso.
The Honorable Paxson passed away Monday at the age of 78.
In honor of his service, many local judges in attendance wore their judicial robes.
Paxson was a graduate of Ysleta High School and earned his business degree while playing football at the University of Texas at El Paso. He also served in the United States Army after attending law school at the University of Texas at Austin.
Paxson's niece, LuzElena Chapa, said he lived serving the community that he loved.
"he loved every member of the El Paso community and served it for over 40 years with strong faith, commitment and a love for the law and a love for humanity," said Chapa.
The U.S. and Texas flag outside of the El Paso County Courthouse were flown at half-staff Thursday in Judge Paxson's honor.
