Registration open for free 'Pre-K for All' program

El Paso, Texas (KTSM) - The Ysleta Pre-K Center is a multi-purpose facility and is welcoming potential students to register.

"Every four-year-old deserves to be educated and to live this learning experience that is strictly built for them. This building was designed for early childhood," Principal Sandra Perez tells KTSM.

An open house welcomed parents to learn more about the facility, engage in activities and meet the staff.

The following 15 YISD elementary schools offer the free Pre-K program:

  • Parkland Pre-K Center
  • Ysleta Pre-K Center
  • Constance Hulbert
  • East Point
  • Eastwood Heights
  • Edgemere
  • Glen Cove
  • LeBarron Park
  • Loma Terrace
  • Pasodale
  • Pebble Hills
  • Sageland
  • Scotsdale
  • Tierra Del Sol
  • Vista Hills

"When they get to see that their children are going to be safe physically, emotionally and intellectually challenged. They get very excited and they're waiting for the first day of school," Perez said.

One of the important lessons the program focuses on is teaching the act of kindness.

"In the world we live in, I think it's very important that at this early age, they're taught to be respectful. Especially to respect their friends, their teachers, and have them learn love overall and kindness," parent Mariana Gil said.

Registration will be ongoing until the month of August. The first day of class for the 2018-2019 school year is August 27.
