Northeast fire causes significant damage to home

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - The El Paso Fire Department responded to a Condition 2 fire in Northeast El Paso early Wednesday morning.

According to responders, the call came in just before 5 a.m. in the 10000 block of Fertell Street in Northeast El Paso.

The fire was under control by 6:20 a.m. and crews were working to determine the origin and extent of the damage.

"When we got here the fire was fully involved, it got a head start on us. They were lucky to get out safely that's where smoke alarms come in handy. We're not sure if that's the case here it could have been a lot worse," Captain Gil Martinez with EPPD said.

One person was taken to the hospital as a preventative measure, however no other serious injuries were reported.
