El Paso to get four water parks

EL PASO, Texas - El Paso city leaders approved spending $1.5 million to design four water parks throughout the city.

On Tuesday, city council awarded a design contract to Parkhill, Smith & Cooper, Inc. for design services.

According to the city, each park will be 6,000 square feet and have a zero depth entry water play area.

Each park will also have a lazy river, water slides, a lap pool and toddler splash area.

Sam Rodriguez, the city’s capital improvement director, told KTSM, "These water parks are going to revamp and modernize our aquatics program.”

According to Rodriguez, two of the water parks will be located at 900 Radford and 1225 Giles.

The other two water parks are going to be built in the northeast and west side of town.

The city is also designing one for the Eastside Regional Park, which will be located near the intersection of Montana Avenue and Hueco Club Road.

Rodriguez said, “They will provide our community with exceptional recreational opportunities. We will achieve that by replacing outdoor rectangular pools that have outlived their useful life, with state of the art outdoor aquatic facilities that will serve people of all ages."

The projects will be funded by the 2012 Quality of Life Bond Program and the 2017 and 2018 capital improvement plan.

According to the city, construction should be completed by the fall of 2019.
