AAA: El Paso tied with Midland for highest gas prices in Texas

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - Gas prices have been constantly rising in El Paso the past few weeks. Now AAA Texas reports El Paso and Midland have the highest gas prices in the Lone Star State.

El Paso's new average for a gallon of regular, unleaded gas, according to AAA data, is $2.84 per gallon. That is higher than the state average of $2.60 and slightly higher than the national average of $2.81.

Gas prices in the Sun City have gone up by six cents in the past week. This time last year, El Paso drivers were paying just $2.26 for a gallon of regular gas, that's 78 cents less than now.

As KTSM previously reported, the rising gas prices can be linked to a steady incline in U.S. crude oil prices over the past year. Crude oil is now at it's highest price in three years, around $70 per barrel. The Energy Information Administration reported it expect gas prices to stay high through 2018, not falling below a $2.76 national average.
