Monday, September 17, 2007 - Last week, more than a dozen undocumented immigrants were picked up in Chaparral, New Mexico during an operation by Otero County Sheriff's Deputies. One woman we spoke with says her family was wrongfully targeted during that same operation. The woman tells Newschannel 9, deputies came to her home in the early morning to tell her family their dogs could not be running loose and their broken refrigerator could not be sitting on the porch. At that point, the woman says the deputies requested identification from everyone inside the home, and when not everyone was able to provide proper identification, Border Patrol agents were called out and five family members were taken back to Mexico. The woman says the situation was unjust and the deputies had no right to ask for anyone's papers. The Otero County Sheriff's Department says they have received many questions on their recent activity in Chaparral and will be holding a news conference later this morning to discuss the concerns surrounding their operation.
