Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - El Paso Fire Department rescue crews and Border Patrol agents spent the morning looking for more than a dozen people stuck in a drainage tunnel. However, hours later, no one was found.
The Border Patrol received word that suspected illegal immigrants were coming into the country and planned to hide in some drainage tunnels near the Resuce Mission. Agents decided they needed expert resuce help and called the fire department. However, after four hours of searching, they had neither heard nor seen anyone and called the rescue operation off.
There are reportedly many tunnels in the area and officials believe the group may have exited through another opening.
