Monday, May 14, 2007 - Police say 18 month-old Malachi Torrance died in February, but that his mother and her boyfriend were not arrested for his death until last month. They are being held at the El Paso County Jail with no bond.

Police and emergency workers responded to the La Mirada Apartments back in February for a call of a child not breathing. Police were told the child fell from a crib, but they quickly became suspicious.

Eighteen month-old Malachi Torrance died at the hospital. His mother, 20 year-old Candice Kendikian, was arrested in April along with her boyfriend, 21 year-old Joshua Scott Wensel. They were indicted last month on charges of injury to a child and murder.

NewsChannel 9 obtained a copy of the autopsy report. It states Malachi died from multiple blunt force trauma. He had a total of 45 bruises on his head, face, back and other parts of his body, in various stages of healing. The report also states Malachi had a healling rib fracture, was below average in height and weight, and had a very low temperature. The autopsy shows Malachi was abused over a long period of time.
