Borderland Carbon Monoxide Cases

By News 1 News 1

Tuesday, December 5, 2006 - A faulty heater caused the death of a 65-year old man in Juarez. The body of Jaime Arellano Jasso was found Friday after carbon monoxide filled his home. Investigators say a bad heater is also to blame for the carbon monoxide poisoning of a northeast El Paso couple on Saturday. The man and the woman were taken to Providence Hospital in serious condition after a an old wall heater and faulty water heater filled their home with carbon monoxide. The day before, three others fell ill from carbon monoxide. A 2-year old boy and two teenagers were taken to the hospital with symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning. Investigators say they were using a barbecue grill to heat up their home. To protect yourself and your family, firefighters recommend installing one or more carbon monoxide alarms in your home. Also, be sure to get your heater checked by a professional at least once a year, and never use a stove or similar appliance to heat up your home.
