Former Agents Get Prison For Shooting Smuggler

By Elsa Valenzuela

Thursday, October 19, 2006 - The two former agents, Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos, were sentenced just a while ago. The judge gave them the mandatory ten-year sentence and added additional time for the obstruction of justice charge. The families did not get the postponement they were hoping for, nor did the judge grant them a retrial. However, both men will be allowed to go home tonight with their families and will get to stay with them until January 17th, giving them a chance to spend the holidays together. They will have to turn themselves in on January 17th. Ignacio Ramos was sentenced to eleven years plus one day behind bars and Jose Compean was sentenced to twelve years in federal prison.
