Wednesday, September 3, 2008- A Federal judge has denied an injunction by El Paso County to stop the building of the border wall.
Construction on the El Paso portion of the border wall is now underway. The wall will run from Ft. Hancock to South Central El Paso near Ascarate Park.
The county of El Paso has filed a lawsuit to stop the construction. The County Attorney has also filed for an injunction that would stop construction until the lawsuit is heard. Friday, Federal Judge Frank Montalvo denied that injunction.
The judge stated that "...The plaintiffs failed to prove that the construction of the border barriers will irreparably injure the public if the injunction were not granted."
So what can the county do now? County Attorney Jose Rodriguez tells Newschannel 9 that the county still has options but time is not on their side.
The wall is expected to be finished in the El Paso area within just six months.
