Wednesday, July 30, 2008- An El Paso family is mourning the death of their 11 year old son after he is shot to death by thieves in Mexico.
Rico Banuelas was traveling with his family to Mazatlan over the weekend. The trip took them family down a highway between Durango and Mazatlan. Family members tell Newschannel 9 that while driving along that highway the family encountered a roadblock set up by thieves. The driver tried to speed away from the roadblock but the bandits fired shots, killing 11 year old Rico.
According to Mexican newspaper "Siglo de Durango," the bandits didn't get far...police arrested these three suspects in a town a few miles away.
"We are happy that these people were caught, and I hope justice is served on them" says Jim Czostek, a Deacon at the church where the Banuelas family has worshiped for years.
"It's very difficult, I mean lots of tears, but we're people of faith and we'll get through this. It's hard to understand but we'll get through it." says Czostek.
