Tuesday, July 22, 2008-  A mother is dead tonight and her two infant children recovering after a very serious car crash near San Elizario.

Sheriff's deputies say a red Ford Focus was racing a silver Mustang heading east on Socorro road.  The woman and her children were riding in a Toyota 4 Runner.  When the 4 Runner pulled into an intersection, the two cars crashed into it.

Investigators say the mother died on the scene.  As for the kids, one three year old child was thrown from the SUV.  The other three year old in the SUV was saved by his car seat.

Both children are at an area hospital in serious condition.
