Kidnapped Ft. Bliss Soldier Safe On Post

By KTSM News 1

Monday, July 21, 2008- A Ft. Bliss Soldier kidnapped from her El Paso apartment is home safe, Monday, at Ft. Bliss.

The whole thing started at the Chimney Apartments on Thursday night when Janeesa Lewis came home to her West El Paso apartment and was brutally attacked.  Police believe Clinton Lewis, Janeessa's husband is responsible for the attack.  They claim Clinton gained access to the apartment while Janeesa was at work and waited for her to come home.  When she arrived, he reportedly kicked her in the face and stabbed her in both legs, he then allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Ft. Bliss officials became nervous when Janeesa didn't show up for work on Friday morning.  Police were sent to perform a welfare check on Janessa at her apartment.  When they arrived on the scene, they found blood inside the apartment.

A three day manhunt then began.  Police were looking for Janeesa and Clinton Lewis because family members were able to confirm that the couple had recently separated.  Janeesa's family told police that Clinton was abusive.

Sunday, Clinton and Janessa showed up at the Central Police station in Downtown El Paso.   According to documents obtained by Newschannel 9, Clinton Lewis took his injured wife to Las Vegas, Nevada.  The couple arrived there late Thursday night, then Friday, Clinton reportedly spent the day monitoring his injured wife's condition.  Saturday, he allegedly dumped the couple's car at the Greyhound Bus Station in Las Vegas and headed back to El Paso, where the couple turned themselves over to police.
