Monday, June 30, 2008- Heavy rains drench the borderland Monday afternoon creating all kinds of problems for El Paso drivers. Around 1:00 PM, Monday afternoon the rain started to fall. East and Central El Paso saw the heaviest downpours. A number of water rescues were called out to the fire department but no injuries were reported as a result of those cars stranded in flooded areas.
Mother Nature's timing was almost suspect, as El Paso County was only hours away from setting an all-time record. That record would have made 2008 the driest first 6 months of the year since records began to be kept 129 years ago. We needed an additional twenty-one hundredths of an inch of rain to fall and by 4:30 PM, El Paso had officially recorded thrity-four hundredths of an inch.
