Wednesday, June 25, 2008- The first case of salmonella poisoning linked to tomatoes has been confirmed in El Paso County.
The El Paso Department of Public Health says a 53 year old woman was infected with salmonella in El Paso County last month. Wednesday, lab results confirmed her case matches others linked to infected tomatoes. The woman who consumed the infected tomatoes is reportedly doing fine.
In Dona Ana County, another case of salmonella poisoning has been confirmed. That brings the total number of confirmed cases in Dona Ana County to 11.
Experts say it is still important to avoid eating raw Red Plum, Red Roma or Red Round tomatoes.
Since April, there have been 652 cases of salmonella poisoning nationwide.
