New Text Threat Warns Cielo Vista Mall Will Be Targeted

By KTSM News 1

Monday, June23, 2008-The latest text message threat to make its way across the borderland was released over the weekend.  This new threat claims "WARNING!!! THE JUAREZ CARTEL IS PLANNING A HIT AT CIELO VISTA MALL TODAY SO PLEASE PASS THIS ON".

West El Paso resident Anthony Glam says he got the message Sunday while at work.  At the time, he says he didn't take the message very seriously.  Twenty-four hours later, he believes the threat is even less credible.  "Because of everything that is happening I guess somebody thought they would write something and then text it to everybody else to see how far it would get and see how much attention."  says Glam.

Deputy Jesse Tovar with the El Paso County Sheriff's Department says the warnings, which have been showing up about once a week are a cause for concern for some people.  "It's a tragedy with what is going on in Juarez, Mexico.  This issue is not going away any time soon so it does create paranoia among the community" says Tovar.

It appears this latest message about Cielo Vista Mall may have created less alarm than previous text messages claiming that area clubs and bars would be targeted.  Monday, it appeared that Cielo Vista Mall had plenty of visitors.  No incidents at the mall were reported on Monday.
