A jury today acquitted 39-year-old Philip Taban. Taban convinced the jury that his sexual relationship with an 18-year-old woman was consensual. Taban's attorney, Luis Aguilar said, "The Bishop sent me a letter saying he would not give one penny of financial assistance, would not allow him to set foot on church property or he would have him arrested,unfortunately, the Catholic Diocese abandoned Father Taban." "He remained extremely strong, he never bad mouthed the church, he never cried that he'd been abandoned by the El Paso Diocese he was strong in his faith and I admire him for that."
