Thursday, May 08, 2008 – In 2001, Renteria raped and murdered 5 year-old Alexandra Flores. In 2003, Renteria was convicted and sentenced to death for that crime. An appeals court reversed the sentence, because the first jurors were led to believe Renteria had no remorse. The Flores family says, despite what Renteria did, they empathize with his family.

Although being sentenced to death might seem like the end fro David Renteria, it’s really the beginning of a long waiting game. With Renteria back on Death Row, El Paso County now has ten people, who’ve received the death sentence. A look into their files shows that a death row inmate can spend years waiting to be put to death.
