Nestled between mountains, the Sun Bowl stadium as its aptly named is an icon in the Sun City and a historic part of the southwest. It's a source of pride here in the borderland.
"El Paso is a beautiful place and it's a great place," said UTEP alumnus Eric Mata. "The Sun Bowl is a great place to watch football games."
It's been home to many games and events like the nationally recognized Hyundai Sun Bowl, this year celebrating its 79th year.
When the Sun Bowl was first built in 1963, they could fit up to 30,000 fans and then after some renovations, today they can seat up to 51,500 people, UTEP officials said.
Today people come to the sun bowl to watch the UTEP Miners play and to enjoy the atmosphere.
The stadium looks like its been carved out of the surrounding rock, almost like a tribute to our natural environment and culture.
