EL PASO - Five El Paso area superintendents are in Austin today to meet with key members of the Texas Legislature and other education leaders regarding funding for school districts. The trip will include at least three meetings with state leaders.
During these meetings the superintendents will share information about the budget crises facing El Paso area school districts. The educators will ask lawmakers to make education a priority as they take on the task of cutting billions of dollars from the state budget. Each superintendent is also expected to address individual bills that may affect his school district.
El Paso Independent School District Superintendent Lorenzo Garcia, Ysleta Independent School District Superintendent Michael Zolkoski, Clint Independent School District Superintendent Edward Gabaldon, Canutillo Independent School District Superintendent Damon Murphy, and Tornillo Independent School District Superintendent Paul Vranish will attend the session of meetings at the Texas Capitol.
The superintendents have scheduled meetings with members of the El Paso delegation to the Texas Legislature. They also will meet with state Rep. Rob Eisler, the chairman of the House Committee on Public Education, and with Texas Education Commissioner Robert Scott.
