EL PASO - Months after making a music video about El Paso, a local rapper says he has gotten plenty of positive and negative response. But he says nothing will stop him from creating music about the city he loves.

Carlos Aguirre has formed a rap group with two friends called The Lower Valley Tres. They're making a splash in the local music market and are even getting recognized by movers and shakers in Austin.

"I just say what comes out, you know, always speak my mind because I really don't care what you think," Aguirre said.

And you better not disrespect his city. Aguirre comes from humble beginnings. Raised in Clint, he says his family used to press a hot iron next to the mattress before bedtime to keep them warm.

"I'm grateful for every single thing I got," Aguirre said.

He's a tattoo artist by day, and also uses songwriting as a creative outlet. He wrote "I Love My City," an ode to the borderland.

"I heard it, and we had to do it, because it's a good track for the city," said Fabian "Payaso" Primera, another member of the Lower Valley Tres.

They shot their music video at Lincoln Park area. But they say ever since they made their video public, they've gotten a lot of backlash.

"I'm uneducated, they call me a wannabe, they criticize down to the fact that I'm wearing a seatbelt," Aguirre said. But it's not making him skip a beat.

"I wish I could do more; I'm not even going to wish I'm going to do more, I got the next one coming out called The Chuco Twist," Aguirre said.

Aguirre let us in on an exclusive recording session for his new track. And even if not everyone is thrilled about his music, someone in Austin is. State representative Marisa Marquez commended the group for their loyalty to the sun city. Aguirre says he's just getting started.

"I think that I'm not at my full potential," Aguirre said. 'I'm not going to be proud of myself until I'm a millionaire."

Aguirre tells us Marquez will present them with their resolution at their concert next month.

For all the haters weres your music video? If you got nothing dont say nothing. Ese loco keep on doing your thing

This guy looks like a small rat...UGLY LoL

Well magen fox, you still looked at me. Looks don't matter in the real world, well unless your a model or something then mabey. But since I'm not, its not a factor. I hope youv done something with your looks if you have some, and no dancing on the bar at frankies on wendsdays does not count. If your past 20 and are still submiting pictures to modeling agencies....stop it. The only way a person like that has a future showcasing there face or body, is if there fecal matter smells like lemons :-)

I'm not a gangster but I'm a fan of music. I aim to make forever lasting classic material when I write songs. There's a lot of good talent that should be recognized and appreciate it but unfortunately some of us never get that break by the media. I'm sure if you'd rock w us or join our movement you'll see that our aim is positive and should deserve recognition too. But you're right though homie, I see your point, hate is all around even towards good talents that should deserve that spot

all the people saying that im a disgrace the EL PASO rap scene are what is wrong with the EL PASO rap scene. they cant just be happy because one of us got some recognition. i myself would be happy for ANY EL PASOAN who got some type of recognition... sad realy, and why are they attacking channel 9? the state of Texas gave me the recognition.im a Chicano born here in EL PASO proud of my Mexican heritage,i have an associates degree and perusing my bachelors.and i own my own businesses.hate me

so much hate

True that The VOTS have created a hip hop movement in El Paso, as well as so many others.( pRiMo, Astro Jones, pRiMe Compozition, Compoze, Orale Jae, Ricco Ferri, Domes Boogie, Hexsagon, $onset, Auebry Mikel,) This is disrespectful to the people who have dedicated themselves to make quality music and represent their city with respect and dignity.More Importantly QUALITY MUSIC! This i wouldnt even call a song. This isnt what represent ME or EL PASO, and that is what this " Journalist is promoting

i feel sorry for you hating on a local artist for no reason.

Yo, hip hop music is a way to express what your feeling inside. Great outlet to connect masses under one movement. A great opportunity to have the listeners tuned in. No disrespect, but I know better hip hop musicians in el paso tx that have something a lot more worthy of listening. If youre a fan of REAL hip hop, you know who I'm talking about . Peep the visions of the sun? They're also from el paso w a better sound and message. Peace!

I know he has the heart and want strong enough to make it :) good job.

This is news?

Mr.aguirre is not an educated man as he claims to be simply a gang member from the nasty boy gang who raps and gloats about being just that!

mmmm beg to differ. i have an associates degree and soon my bachelors degree. i own my own business. bad news for you huh?

Rap music is idiot music and there are a lot of idiots out there.

THIS VIDEO IS A DISGRACE TO REAL LOCAL ARTISTS WHO SHOULD GET KNOWN PEOPLE WITH REAL MUSIC TALENT!!!THIS VIDEO SUCKS!!!!!YOURS TRULY PRETTY DA PUSHA!!!!LOOK ME UP

why you hatting ese? i didnt know you felt like this. good to know though. cant be happy for me huh?

I'm so proud to call El Paso home.

HAHAHA are you serious. So i was one who was BORED and read this story about some hood thug that has nothing better to do hoping he can sign a label.I saw him on You Tube. This so called group is a joke. So let me make sure i understand this.Guy comes out with a so called song called "i love my city", but yet in another her is talking how he loves mexico and has a mexico bandana.Isnt your city in the states? Oh wait.Maybe its not "cool" to have a usa bandana right? Stick to your day job buddy!

well i don't recall ever sporting a Mexico bandana but ill make it a point to do in my next video. im a Chicano born here in El Paso. whats wrong with me being proud of my Mexican heritage? why dont you say something about all the people who have Irish German Cuban or any other flags on their car home t shirt or anything else? why dont you say something next time you see a person wearing a "kiss me im Irish" t shirt? have a good life, im enjoying mine.

Mr. Aguirre merits to be commended not criticized. He shows love and pride in the city he grew up in and rec'd his education. Maybe he is not a college graduate but he is a responsible member of the community with a job, dreams and desire to promote a city that many others only hear negative comments on. Everybody deserves an "atta boy"! I know that I'd rather hear that someone is doing something constructive vs. commiting a crime. Kudos to you Mr. Carlos Aguirre!

I agree with everything you posted but I have to correct you on the fact that he is a college graduate and is continuing his education. Mr. Aguirre is also a business owner. It is sad that people just cant accept that everybody has different taste in music and all aspects. If people would not judge by appearances they would see others true spirit.
