Local program teaches kids to be safe
El Paso, TX (KTSM) — Twenty-two kids in the borderland graduated today from "Safety Town".
The program, hosted by Bassett Place Mall, teaches kids ages 5 and 6 about fire and traffic safety and ways to be safe when they are by themselves.
The week-long program was free and run by volunteers.
"It's easy to show the kids when they're young about safety. It seems like they absorb a lot more information and it seems to stick" said EPISD Police Officer Juan A. Rivera.
Kids receive a free bicycle helmet from the Border RAC as well as a safety town t-shirt and coloring book from Bassett Place.
