Almost 9,000 people laced up their shoes in February for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. On Wednesday, that money was distributed to organizations throughout the El Paso Community.

Susan G. Komen El Paso awarded more than three hundred thousand dollars to organizations that help breast cancer patients and their families. That includes the El Paso Baptist Clinic, which provides free medical care to low income families.

"We have waited and prayed and we're so grateful to Komen and all of those who gave, everybody who had a part," said Elenor Poe, with the El Paso Baptist Clinic.

"This is one of the few days of the year where it's when all of the hard work and dedication of thousands of volunteers and sponsors culminates with the awards of grants to the community and it's truly an honor to be here today," added Stephanie Flora with Susan G. Komen El Paso.

The money raised by El paso's Race for the Cure was distributed to seven local organizations. More than $90,000 will also go toward national breast cancer research.
