A Local Jiu Jitsu Instructor Offers Free Self-Defense Class
EL PASO — Benny Benavides uses his 36 years of martial arts experience to give women a fighting chance in the face of danger.
Benny encourages women to get to the dojo at Xtreem Jiu Jitsu... where he offers a free rape prevention self-defense class once a month.
"I would like the female population of El Paso to have that same confidence that if and when they're in harms way they're going to be smart first of all and then, know realize and understand what they're able and capable of doing," said Benny.
Benny says remain calm as he gives women a "leg up."
"Most people use their arms to fight. You have four limbs. If you can learn to use all four, you're already on top of the game," said Benny.
20-year-old Chanel Tellez began taking Benny's self-defense classes about two months ago... and she says she now feels ready to take on the world.
"I had such serenity and confidence so when I did it I just knew no matter what happened I would pretty much be good I think for the most part," said Chanel.
"My belief is as I empower women, there's a pleasure of self-satisfaction that this day I brought something to humanity that they're going to use for themselves defense and build confidence in each one," said Benny.
Benny offers the free self-defense class on the first Monday of every month.
