A group of churches, temples and teacher organizations around the borderland called Border Interfaith, hosted a debate this afternoon for many candidates running for election.

Attendees for the debate included Congressional candidates, Texas Senate candidates, Texas House candidates and State Board of Education candidates. The debate was intended to be a forum for Border Interfaith leaders to share their concerns about healthcare, education, immigration and jobs and then ask the candidates about their stance on each of these issues.

"They gave yes or no answers and explanations for how they felt about these issues. I think all in all we're very pleased with the turnout, the number of people in the audience and the way many of these potential officials want to work with us," said Kathy Staudt, with Border Interfaith.

Staudt felt the debate gave people a chance to make more informed votes after hearing the candidates speak.
