Local coaches react to Olympic wrestling removal
EL PASO, Texas — It's been a fixture at the Olympics since 708 B.C.
But today, the International Olympic Committee decided to eliminate wrestling from the Olympics in 2020.
The decision was made by secret ballott by the 15 member board.
No reason or explanation was given for the drop.
Local wrestling coaches said this decision will affect their students.
"Everybody has their eye, when they're a young wrestler to be in the Olympics. So if they take that away from all these young wrestlers then they're taking away that dream of being an Olympic wrestler," said Chapin Wrestling Coach, Angel Nevarez.
Coach Nevarez thinks this decision won't stick.
