Legitimate Work At Home Jobs

January 13, 2009 - 5:16pm

Convergys

Experts predict El Paso's unemployment rate will jump when new figures are released later this month. So what are people doing to find work?
We found a stay-at-home mom who uses her time wisely and gets paid for it.

Karla Serrano does everything a stay at home mom would do, house chores, cooks, you name it and this mom does it.

Last year when prices started going up, Serrano realized she needed to make more money and she managed to find a job that allows her to work from home.

"I'm not wasting time, I am a stay-at-home mom, so I might as well get paid for staying at home," Serrano said. "That's what I do, I just work those couple of hours. My shift is 6 am to 2:30 so it works out fine."

The company Serrano works for is called Convergys. It's an inbound customer service center that routes calls--through the internet--to Karla's computer.

We checked out Convergys with the Better Business Bureau and this work-from-home job is legit. There are no upfront fees and it doesn't take much to get started.

To do this job, all you need:

- Broadband Internet connection
- Computer with at least 2GB of RAM
- A USB headset with a microphone and speaker.

Workers don't have to worry about an immediate supervisor or co-workers because they are all in a chat room. The best part of the job, is not having to rush in traffic to get to work on time.

Karla says she also sees more money in her pocket because she is spending less money working from home.

"If you add up all those times, you go out to eat, if you add up the gasoline per week, especially when it was going up high, I don't have to worry about nothing like that," Serrano said.

Karla works more than 40 hours a week, get paid overtime and has medical and dental benefits.

A spokesperson for Convergys says employees make an average of $9.00 an hour depending on experience.

Well I have tried to apply online with convergys and can not get past the test of my PC. I have taken it in and had it upgraded to over a 1GB Ram for windows XP and they still tell me that it is not enough GB Ram. I do not know what else to do. I need to find work and I also homeschool my child and need something that I can do here in the home. Also I thought that it would be great to work for Convergys because of their rating with the BBB.
