Las Cruces Police are investigating a crash that happened just before 6:30 a.m. Monday morning on El Paseo Rd. that left a central Texas man dead.

The 67-year-old man was traveling north on El Paseo Road when he lost consciousness and his Ford F-250 crossed Idaho Ave. and veered into oncoming traffic. The Ford side-swiped a Chevrolet Silverado, jumped a curb and came to rest in the parking lot of the Walgreens store located at 1256 El Paseo Rd.

Emergency responders on the scene believed the crash was caused after the man suffered a medical emergency while driving. He was immediately transported to Memorial Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Investigators do not believe the man's death was a result of the crash, but rather from the medical condition that caused him to lose consciousness.

The 38-year-old driver of the Silverado and her two passengers were not injured in the crash.

Southbound lanes of El Paseo was closed until approximately 10:00 a.m. while LCPD investigated the traffic accident.
