Las Cruces veterans help break ground on Vietnam memorial park
LAS CRUCES (KTSM) — Las Cruces veterans were honored at a groundbreaking ceremony Saturday for the city's new Vietnam Memorial Park.
Construction is set to begin within the next few weeks.
Memorial organizers told NewsChannel 9 the monument will depict the way every branch of the U.S. Military served during the war, and will include 398 portraits of New Mexico Soldiers killed in action.
Veteran Candelario Calderoan, Jr. said he never regretted his service.
"We didn't get a good welcome home," Calderoan said, fighting tears, "but I would do it again."
The memorial is expected to cost $200,000, half to be paid for by the State of New Mexico.
