Las Cruces teen admits to murder

A Las Cruces teenager now admits he mistakenly shot and killed an innocent man two years ago. 18 year-old Johnny Ray Vallejos plead guilty today to murdering 57 year-old Julian Pena, Sr. in February of 2011. Police say Vallejos and four other men weren't actually trying to hit Pena. They were trying to shoot Andrew Tuna Martinez after Martinez allegedly killed an Oñate football player, 18 year-old Jerry Zamarripa, with a golf club. They fired at least ten shots into the Pena's mobile home, assuming it was the house belonging to Andrew Martinez. It turns out Martinez lived about five miles away. Vallejos faces up to 29 years in prison. The four other men also pleaded guilty as part of plea deals.
