Fire Department Responds to Strip Mall Fire

Las Cruces Fire Department responded to a smoke investigation outside a building in the 400 block of South Compress shortly after 11 p.m Wednesday night. Engine 3 quickly requested a commercial fire response after arriving on scene and finding an office space involved in fire.

Two more Las Cruces Fire Department Engines, one Truck, and a Battalion Chief responded. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and prevented any extension into additional businesses. The business was unoccupied at the time. The fire caused significant damage to the front office and smoke damage was found throughout the office space. Total damage is estimated at around $20,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

No civilians or firefighters were injured.
